The stairs change? This was something Ly had not been expecting and also it was something he was not told about. He had been on his way to the common room when he felt the stairs shake, he had stopped to make sure they were sturdy when he had to hold on tight to the railing as they moved. Sending him in the opposite direction to where he was going.
He was stumped, he had basic knowledge of where everything was, so had was he suppose to keep track of where he was going if they moved? He stood in the middle of the stairs, uming and ering if he should go up and find another way or go back down and try another set of stairs.
His school was nothing like Hogwarts, it never changed it was always the same. Slightly fustrated he decided to head back down, surely he would spot another Gryffindor and then follow them, hoping they would be going to the common room.

Lily was carrying her broom over her shoulder, and a shoulder bag that was filled with little balls that her father had bewitched to fly around, just like a snitch would. She used these little ping-pong balls, which she found out they were, to practice alone, when she could find no one to practice with her. She also had a look of contentment on her face, for she always felt so much better after she had finished flying or practicing. She always felt a sense of relaxation and contentment, it was a wonderful feeling for her. She sighed happily and found her way to the staircases that would take her to the common room.
As she stepped upon the staircase and was starting to walk up, they began to move, and she groaned. She hated when they moved like this for they always made it that much longer of journey to the common room. She just shook her head, causing her orange locks to whip about, for she thought they always seemed to move as soon as she stepped foot upon them, and she had lost her amusement for the moving staircases years ago. She then felt herself being moved sideways towards another corridor, with a slight wind hitting her face as the staircase moved to position itself in front of another doorway, it really did seemed as if they have a mind of their own, she mused to herself. Then there was a rumble and she felt the staircase shake as it stopped into its ending position.
She then just shook her head, and was about to take off towards the new doorway, when out of the corner of her eye she saw Ly, with a look of confusion upon his face, on the stairway across from her. She then realized that he didn't know that the staircases moved and no one had bothered to tell him. At least when she came to Hogwarts she had been warned, but it must be a little rough being the new kid, she didn't like calling him that but it was true, and not realize that this castle had a mind of its own. She then watched as he jogged back down the staircase and she did the same with hers. Clutching her broom and her bag, she quickly jogged down the staircase and made her way over to Ly. As she reached him she had a smile upon her face and a glint of amusement in her eyes, "Hello Ly, I couldn't help but see the look of confusion on your face when the staircases moved, they kinda sorta have a mind of their own," she mused. She then asked politely, "Do you need any help going anywhere now? It looked like you were trying to head off towards the common room..." she stated questionably.

As Ly heard footsteps his head quickly turned in the direction they were coming from, a wave of relief went over him when he saw a familiar face, Lily. He had met her in the library and now it seemed she was here to his rescue. Even if she wasn't heading to the common room he was sure she could give him directions, however he hoped that she was. Seeing her with a broom over her shoulder he could only guess she had been practising quidditch and more then likely on her own. Ly wasn't much of a flyer, not to say he couldn't fly just preferred his feet on the ground thats all or on his surf board.
"Move? You've got to be kiddin' me?" He asked, his accent still hadn't changed since he arrived at Hogwarts which made him stand out a little in a crowd. As far as he knew he was the only Australian within the walls of Hogwarts, apart from his sister.
"Someone could have told me that when I got here. I guess its common knowledge 'ere in Ol' England." As Lily asked him if he needed help, he gave her a nod. He needed more thne just help, he needed a map so he knew where he was going, but what good is a map if the stairs move and change directions.
"I was, thought I'd get through another essay but getting lost just sounds.... unavoidable. Would you mind showing me how to get to the common room?" Ask Ly, his head was slightly tilted to on side and a goofy grin plastered on his lips.
(Sorry about the reply, I need another muse)

Lily noted that he had a thick accent, it was definitely not English, or even Irish, no it was something else. She then tried to pin-point his accent, but was coming up with nothing. She then couldn't help but ask, "So where are you from Ly, I know your accent doesn't sound as if you are from around here..." She then blushed a little for she felt as if she was being a little nosy, and then hastily added, "I hope I'm not being nosy, I'm just curious that's all." She really hoped he didn't judge her as a little third year trying to be nosy, for she was genuinely interested in where he was from, for it wasn't everyday that Hogwarts had a transfer student, although she thought, it would be interesting if there were more transfer students, for it would only add to the diversity to Hogwarts.
Lily then couldn't help but laugh at Ly's reaction to her telling him that the stairs moved. It was the best reaction she had seen, and she's seen some good reactions from the little first years when they found out the hard way that the stairs moved and had a mind of their own. His reaction topped them all, for he truly didn't know that the stairs moved, and thought it was joke, priceless to Lily. She smiled at him, a kind of smile that illuminated her whole face, "Yes, indeed they do move, I wouldn't lie to you about that." She then thought for a moment, and realized that it was common knowledge that the stairs moved at Hogwarts, for all the students were told by their parents, and their peers. Poor Ly was just left to fend for himself when it came to find his way around Hogwarts which didn't seem fair to her, she thought that someone should show him around or at least inform him about all the oddities of the castle. "You know I guess it is common knowledge about the staircases that move, I guess we just take it for advantage that knowledge and not bother to tell anyone about it, for we assume they know already. That doesn't seem right, but yes they do move, they move all the time actually. It seems as if every time I step foot upon the stairs, they move on me," she laughed.
Lily then couldn't help but to admire Ly's goofy smile, it suited him well, and showed her well that he indeed did have some sort of goofy side in there, even when he was trying to get all his homework completed. She smirked at him, and said, "Of course, I was just heading to the common room myself, I need to drop off my broom, and I probably should work on some homework..." Her voice trailed off for once again she was lacking motivation to complete her homework, even when it was easy for her. That was the thing with Lily she had tons of homework that she always put off till the last minute, for it was too easy for her. She was a clever witch, she truly was, it just didn't seem like it most of the time, since she waited so long to complete her homework. When she did find the motivation though, she completed her homework rapidly, and easily.

When Lily asked about his accent he gave a small chuckle, he didn't find her nosy at all. He thought that his accent was a dead give away, it was a one of a kind in Hogwarts at least for the time being. Noticing the change of colour in her cheeks he didn't say a word, the one thing he wouldn't do was tease the girl, afterall he still needed to get back to the common room.
"Your not nosy, just curious." Reaching out he placed his hand on top of her head and ruffling her hair a little, something he would constantly do to his little sister. The situation just seemed to call for it and Ly being the type of person he was always acted on what he was thinking. "I'm from Australia, lived in Sydney in a place called Bondi has a beautiful beach I could spend a whole day surfin'. "
As Lily laughted at his reaction he rolled his eyes and shook his head, smiling. He probably could have toned his reaction down a little but it just slipped out without thinking. The one thing that did make Ly happy was seeing Lily smile, Ly was the type of person who would brake his own arm if it got a smile out of someone. He always put others before himself and so when Lily said she had homework as well he decided to offer his help.
"I'll tell ya what Lil, it is okay if I call you Lil right?" He hadn't even asked in the library if it was okay but with his old friends they all had nicknames and he thought Lily should have one. "Or maybe carrot top?" He teased but then threw his arms up as though he was surrendering, "Just a joke don't take offence. But what I was going to say was, I'll help you with your homework in repayment for showing me the way. Does that sound fair?" Asked Ly as he offered his hand to Lily so she could walk with him. That way if the stairs also changed they wouldn't get seperated.

Lily let out a small sigh of relief when Ly said that she wasn't being nosy asking about his accent. She couldn't help but to be worried that he would find her to be prodding and nosy for asking, it was a nice relief that he didn't mind. Also it provided a starter for a conversation about where he was from, and get to know him better. He seemed like a nice guy, and obviously very school oriented, hopefully they could be friends, and maybe he would provide Lily with some extra motivation to actually do her homework at an appropriate time, and not the night before it was due. She smiled again, it was hard not to smile while she was around this boy, "Well I'm glad, I didn't want you to think I was nosy or anything, we'll just save that little fact for later when we get to know each other better, " she joked. She then scrunched up her nose when he ruffled her hair, normally her brothers did this, but it was more amusing when someone else did it besides her brothers. "You're from Australia? That's rad, I've never traveled there before, but I'd love to some day, actually I'd like to travel period. It must be nice to live near a beach, I bet that never got old watching the sun dance upon the waves. Sounds like you're really big into surfing, must be a shock coming here and seeing no sandy beach and waves to surf."
She couldn't help but to start to laugh a little bit harder as Ly rolled his eyes and shook his head. At least he was smiling though she thought to herself, that means he isn't upset that I'm kinda sorta laughing at him. She couldn't help it, she was the type of person to find the humor in anything and everything. Even when something seemed the opposite of funny to everyone else she was always able to find something ironic and funny about the situation. It was just something that came naturally to her, just as she looked on the bright side of everything. No matter what Lily was determined to keep a smile upon her face, even when on the days where she felt the opposite of happy, she still smiled.
Lily nodded as he asked if he could call her Lil, "Of course you can, I don't mind one bit." Once she heard the words carrot top escape his lips she instantly scowled, for she hated that nickname, her brothers used to call her that when she was little to frustrate her, and indeed it did. When Ly said he was joking though, her scowl lessened, as he threw his hands up in surrender her scowl slowly disappeared, and was replaced with a smirk, "Uhh, carrot top is definitely out, sorry love. As for the homework that's fine if you really want too, I don't really need the help, I just need motivation, but sure that sounds fair." She then looked at his hand and then back at him, and gently took it, his large hand, engulfing her tiny one.

When Ly saw Lil's scrowl when he said Carrot Top he tought he had hit a nerve but at least it began to disappear he was glad she could at least take a joke. The last thing he wanted was to make enemies so early into the school year as he was known to stick up for those who weren't able to and say the wrong thing from time to time. However, when Lil took hold of his hand his other reached out and took her broom, saving her carrying it, he was a gentleman at heart it was how he was raised.
"I'm not stealing it, I just have morals that when a man is walking with a lady he carries part of the load for her. He explained before she could say anything. Tucking it under his other arm he gave a small nod with his head down the hall, indicating that if they were to go to the common room it would probably be best to start walking.
"So Lil it is and no carrot top, unless the situation deams worthy." Again he flashed her another goofy grin showing off his pearly whites and the small dimples in his cheeks. "But yes it was a huge shock for me, no surfin' and the climate change. But if I really have the craving to surf I'll use a spell on that lake to make waves. If your game I'll teach you how to surf." A lot of girls did surf at Bondi beach but they were only doing to get the wrong sort of attention, Ly surfed because the waves were unpredictable you couldn't control them no matter how much one wanted to.
"The best time was the sun rise, sitting on your board while the waves are calm and watching the rays creep out. Its always quieter in the mornings, my school was right next to the beach so we would always duck out at lunch and catch a couple of waves before going back to class. The Teachers came out as well with us and our headmaster, he is in his 60's and he still manages to pull a few moves on the boad. But switch way princess?"

Once Lily's hand was safely placed in Ly's she watched him as he took her broom from her. She was about to protest, but as he explained to her why he did so, all she could so was blush. She was quite taken aback by his actions, for they were of a true gentleman, and she hadn't met many gentlemen period. She was young yet so she was sure she would meet a few gentlemen in her time, but it was a nice surprise that some boys like Ly are already gentlemen. Even though she knew she was still blushing, she managed a small smile, for she almost felt shy at this point in time, but refused to show it, so instead she softly said, "Well thank you Ly, you didn't have to do that, I could have carried it, but thank you none the less."
After she felt her moment of shyness, as well as blushing pass, she was felt comfortable with Ly once again, she gently tugged on his hand, pulling him towards a staircase that had just moved once again. Once he replied to her that he would call her Lil instead of carrot top she smirked, "Good, I won't answer to carrot top at all, even when those special occasions do occur. You could shout yourself hoarse for I refuse to answer to carrot top, well I might, it just might be with a curse." She then laughed, for she was only kidding with him, well kinda. She hated being called carrot top, but if he kept on nagging her with it, she most likely would retaliate with a curse, but Ly didn't seem like the type of boy who would continually nag her, which she was thankful for. She couldn't remember how many times she had gotten yelled at by professors or her parents for cursing another student or her brothers because they continually nagged her by calling her carrot top.
Lily found Ly’s goofy smile to be quite cute to be honest. She just couldn’t help but to think so, but of course she wouldn’t tell a soul or even him, it was just a passing thought for the dimples upon his cheeks in her opinion made the smile all the cuter and she couldn’t help but smile in return. She then was really excited that he offered to teach her to surf, for it would be a new challenge for Lily, and she was always up for a challenge. She shook her head eagerly and replied excitedly, “I’d love to learn how to surf if you’d teach me, to be honest I’ve never even seen anymore surf before. It would just be sweet if I could learn, and a new challenge for me, and I do love finding new challenges for myself.”
She listened intently, soaking up every word Ly was describing about his love of surfing and how he would surf with his friends, as well as his professors and head master. She painted a pretty picture in her mind of what it must be like to be able to sit on a surf board with water surrounding her, the feel of the waves rocking the board in a steady rhythm, the sun warming her small body, and her just soaking it all in. Soaking in the smell of the ocean, the coolness of the breeze, and the just the calm that would fall over her because of all of it. She sighed and said dreamily, “That sounds amazing, I hope one day I’ll be able to experience it for myself. It just sounds like heaven on Earth, or a heaven of sorts. What I consider heaven on Earth is when I get on my broom and start to fly around. Just feeling the wind in face, ruffling my hair, it just makes me feel alive. Flying around on my broom just feeling the weightlessness, and the ability to view Earth from above, is just so calming for me, and just exhilarating. I can’t even describe how I feel sometimes on my broom.” She then came out of her dream world when he asked which way for they had finally reached the top of stairway, she recognized the corridor, and said, “Oh this is the fourth floor, and we need to go one more floor up, for we are on our fifth floor.” She then guided him toward another set up stairs, just praying they wouldn’t move on them again.
((I made up where the Gryffindor Common Room is located, I hope you don’t mind!))

It seemed that everytime he did something kind hearted girls would seem to blush and Lily seemed to be one of those girls. He hadn't meet a girl yet that hadn't blushed but he was sure Lily would soon get use to the way he was and she would feel at ease with him. The one thing he had noticed though was that she seemed taken back by his actions, even if she was a couple of years below was he the first to treat her as such? No there would have had to have been someone else, just probably not from someone she had only met once before.
"I'm afraid I do have to, if you met my father you'd understand. 'Being a man isn't about being able to beat up the other guy, its about protecting your family. That's why you were born first to look after your little sister.'" Ly deepened his voice to sound more like his father, he also placed a stern look on his face and shook his finger as he spoke. As he heard her reply to his offer, he was more then pleased, it meant he could teach her and surf as well. He wondered if he would get in trouble for making waves out on the lake by the professors?
"Of course I don't mind teachin' ya how to surf, I'll ask my sister, Alala if I can borrow her surf board for you, your both about the same hieght...shorty." Ly teased but looked straight ahead as though he hadn't said anything at all. His grin was still on his lips, expecting Lil to slap his shoulder or something for his comment.
"Flying? I'm not into it that much, Australia doesn't have a good quidditch team most of us stick to surfing or dueling. But I would prefer my feet on a surf board or the ground then on a broom." Australia didn't get a love for quidditch like the rest of the world. Most of them had a love for surfing or other muggle sports by adding a magical twist to them.
The fifth floor? so he wasn't that far away from his destination but he was thankful that Lily had come along otherwise he would be stuck wandering around for a while longer. It wasn't like he was in a hurry to get his essay done he had plenty of time and he just wanted to get it out of the way so he would have more free time later in the week.
"Oh you haven't heard why I transferred here have you?" Ly asked as he turned his head to look down at Lil whose red cheeks had now gone back to their normal colour." Your English Ministry of Magic wanted to hire him. You know those muggle Private detectives? Dad was a Private Auror back home but this was urgent. So even though I was half way through finishing my last year back home, I have to come here and start all over again. I don't mind, just gotta brush up on the History, the rest of the essays I've done just gonna hand them in again when they are due..."

Lily couldn't help but to laugh at Ly's impression of his father. She understood where he was coming from, and she really appreciated it. Not many boys around Hogwarts would do this for her, and it was a nice change for her. Sure she could have handled her broom herself, sometimes she preferred it that way, but on this occasion it was a nice change. "Well then since you have too, I thank you again. It's a nice change meeting a boy who is already a gentleman. You're father seems like a true gentleman himself, and instilled you with some good values. I know my father tries to do that same with James and Albus, although I don't know if they listen when he tells them about being a gentleman. Eventually though, I'm sure they'll get it." She then added still laughing, "That was a lovely impression you did by the way, I quite enjoyed the deepening of your voice part." She then playfully stuck out her tongue at him.
Once she heard the word escape Ly's mouth that he would teach her how to surf a huge smile erupted upon her face, and she almost, almost jumped for joy. She did do an odd little hop, skip, jump walk, but that was just her trying not to make a fool out of herself and was her way of not jumping for joy. Although it only made her look ridiculous to people who might be passing them, and might seem odd to Ly, but she shrugged it off. "That would be wonderful Ly, and I promise that I'll be an excellent student for you," she said playfully. She then pretended to be upset with his comment about her being short, she really didn't care, but it was fun to pretend that she did. As she playfully smacked his shoulder she stated with indignation, "I am not short! I am just fun size!" She then let go of his hand and walked ahead of him in a "huff".
As she heard him chase after her, she then turned around, with a smile plastered upon her face. She then waited as he caught up to her, and started walking backwards as he stated that he wasn't much interested in flying. She was perplexed about this, for she has never met a boy that isn't crazy about flying and Quidditch. She then offered, "Well that's interesting. It seems as if flying and playing Quidditch is all the rage with the boys at this school, it's almost refreshing to meet someone who isn't into it. Although I don't understand how you can't be, I just love to fly, well I guess that's kinda obvious," she added thoughtfully. "Oh you're into dueling? Well that's fun, I've never really gotten into that, although I'd like to try my hand at that some day, but I have a feeling my brothers and my parents wouldn't like that too much...but then again sometimes I do not listen to either of them," she laughed.
She then shook her head to indicate that she never heard why he transferred. She listened intently and realized that his dad was most likely working with hers since her father, Harry, was head of the Auror department at the Ministry. "Oh you're dad might work with mine then! My dad is head of the Auror department at the Ministry." She then made a gagging noise as he talked about finishing his essay for History of Magic. That class bored her to tears, but she continued on with the subject. She figured maybe she might learn something that will be useful later in life. "Blech History of Magic? That is the driest subject on Earth. If you ever need any help feel free to ask, I'm pretty good at the subject. I don't understand how, for most of the time I do not listen in that class..." It was true, normally when she was in that class she would get this glazed look on her face and just stare out the window, or on some rare occasions she would actually fall asleep!

So Quidditch was the rage here in England. Ly had never though it to be that interesting, sure one could fly fast and be in complete control. But what was the point in being able to control, going along with the waves on the other hand that made it interesting. He had lived to close to the beach and his school was close as well there wasn't anything else to do but surf. It was one sport that muggles invented that was worth knowing. He watched as Lily did a couple of skips, her reaction wasn't something he had been expecting. Grining at her comment he moved his arm and placed it around her shoulders, pulling her in towards him he gave her a small hug.
"The first couple of times I started surfing I fell off but if that happens I'll catch you." He said reassuringly, moving his arm back down he absent mindedly rested had his arm in the middle of her back. He didn't think of his actions and hadn't thought if it made her uncomfortable, it was just how he was and that got him into trouble more often then not.
Hearing that their fathers would be working together he knew what his first letter would be from his father. He would instruct to keep an eye on Lily, something he had already planned on doing. But he wasn't sure how Lily would respond if she found out, he hadn't gotten to know her just yet and was a little curious about the english girl.
"Then I guess we'll be seeing more of one another, knowing my father he would invite the man who hired him over for dinner as a celebration. Sounds like you won't be able to get rid of me in the school holidays." Ly teased, the words had left his mouth before he even thought about what he was saying. Now he knew he was going to get into trouble, he had only spoken to Lily twice. Once in the library and now, he wasn't sure what kind of impression he had left.
"I'll keep that in mind." He replied to her comment about History, at first he had been a little upset for in six months he would have graduated but now he had to wait another year. But if most people in Hogwarts were like Lily he didn't have that much of a problem with it. "Who is your father anyway?"

By the grin on Ly's face, Lily concluded that he was highly amused and thrilled by Lily's reaction that she would love to learn how to surf. How could she not be thrilled with the chance to learn how to surf? How many people around Hogwarts actually knew how to surf, so how could she possibly pass up the chance, oh yeah she couldn't. She was a little surprised by his hug, but none the less she returned it affectionately. Once he stated that he had fallen off when he first started to surf, Lily became nervous, for yes she could swim, but she didn't like the idea of falling off the surf board into the turning water that would surround her. She let out a small sigh of relief when Ly said he would catch her, but it eased her worries a bit, but she was still a little nervous and apprehensive. "Well that's good to know, for the whole idea of falling into the turning water below me, doesn't sound that appealing," she mused. She then felt his hand come to rest in the small of her back, and she tried to shrug it off, for it took all her might not to twitch or show some reaction, even though her brain was screaming at her many different emotions that she didn't want to deal with at all at the moment. So instead she just smiled warmly up at Ly, indicating she didn't mind and continued to listen to him as he talked.
Lily was amused by the fact that Ly said she wouldn't be able to get rid of him. Not that she complained at all, she was beginning to really like Ly. He was obviously smart, as well as sweet and kind. He also thus far has proved himself to be a perfect gentlemen which was refreshing to her. So having a guy like Ly around wouldn't be a annoyance at all, it would be fantastic in her eyes. Also he was rather easy on the eyes and she was certainly not going to object to have him around her family a lot. It would also give her a better chance to get to know him better, and perhaps learn a few things from him. In an amusing tone she stated, "Oh well that's quite alright by me. I quite enjoy celebrations, they are always such a fun time, and besides that would give us a chance to get to know each other outside of school. It will be fun."
She was then quite taken aback that he didn't know who her father was. She figured that he already knew that she was the daughter of the famous Harry Potter, everyone knew that, well at least she thought that till now. She figured that someone would have mentioned that by now, and she thought that her bright green eyes that so much resembled her father's would have given it away. Apparently not she thought to herself. Lily had been plagued all her life at Hogwarts of the constant whispering and pointing at her that she was the famous, youngest and only daughter of Harry Potter and Ginny Weasley. It was an inescapable thing that she would always be known for that, and exceedingly hard for her to break out and gain fame on her on accord. She knew it annoyed her and her brothers exceedingly at Hogwarts that they were just known for their parents and not for their own achievements. After last year though, Lily was some-what able to make a name for herself by winning the Quidditch Cup for her house, but that was just overshadowed by the comments that her father had done the same and the resemblance of her flying style to her father's. It was just a never-ending coures of events for her, and to find someone who didn't know who she was, she quite enjoyed it. She just almost hated telling him who her father was, for she feared he would look at her differently because of it. She then smiled and stated in admiration, "My father is Harry Potter."
